28th December 2006 - BBC R4’s Woman’s Hour have just devoted a considerable chunk of their programme to women who make, and women who eat, pork pies. Lots of interesting PP information. It is available to listen to online and the page includes a recipe for making your own pork pies

19th December 2006 - all going brilliantly. The sows are about to farrow (have piglets!). And there’s an enthusiastic article about the pies in the Eastern Daily Press - click on Nell’s picture on the right to read it.

24th November - The Green Grocer pork pie party.

To celebrate the launch of The Green Grocer in Norwich becoming our first local retail outlet we held a pork pie tasting party.

It’s a fantastic shop, run by very nice people with wonderful stock and we are very happy to be part of it.  It fits well with how we think food should be. They played salsa music, loads of people came in and the party kicked off!

We got up at the crack of dawn to bake many pies.

We got brilliant feedback on the pork pies.  People told us they had come in especially to try them.  Which was exciting.  And, having done so, they went away with several.

One of the interesting things we discovered was the high number of women who didn’t really think they were keen on pork pies. But, when they tried these and found that there was a world of difference between them and the grim ones that get sold in garages, there was an instant flash of conversion to them.

Lots of children liked them too.

People seemed to appreciate talking to the people (us!) who had cooked them about the ingredients and about how we looked after the pigs.

We were able to explain that the meat that they were made of was the good stuff that would normally be used for joints and chops and so forth.  And the bacon that is included in the recipe makes a big difference to the depth of taste. They are all meat, no filler cereal or worse. And just the touch of onion marmalade.

We intended to do it as a one off - but we think we may do it again. perhaps just before Christmas. It was fun.
