Pieku competition – The results!

That was a crazy weekend! We had over 300 wonderful entries to the pieku competition (loosely, a haiku poem relating to pie), from America, France, New Zealand, as well as lots from the UK. We had pieku that broke all the rules of haiku (which was fine), pieku which made us laugh and, nearly, cry and an alarming trend toward the comparison of tortoise to pie. There were clusters of ornithological pieku and some which, strangely, involved feeding pies to whales and crabs – you know who you are @kevbrookes.

We had pieku in French, Japanese and some that were quite hard to pin down geographically. We had a touch of showbiz razzle (and some judge-pleasing flattery and Xs) from one of the stars of Downton Abbey. It made @KaveyF’s newly mended eyes hurt less (research papers will be written). We discovered we particularly like pieku that told a story, made us hungry, made us laugh and made us think of Norfolk. And we decided the plural of pieku is pieku.

This is the full list of pieku – many thanks to @adrianshort for harvesting them with technical wizardry – we believe they will also be archived in The Itinerant Poetry Library. Also thanks to @farctum for the original idea and support. And most of all thanks to everyone who did their thing to make it such a total lark!

Anyway, we have a winner

Well done to our winner @Yyadiloh - who will get a pie with her name on for writing such beautiful and precise pieku.

The original post…

It started on twitter, as many things do… Pop-up pie assistant Vivia, @farctum, lay awake and entertained herself by thinking up a pie haiku – or – #pieku as it has been named on Twitter. So we thought we’d have an off-the cuff competition on Twitter and Facebook – enter via either. It’s no-rules and ends on midnight Sunday 5th February

A pie with a name on (in this case the Bob Bob Ricard logo)

The one we decide is best will win a big pie with your name on – we can post anywhere in the UK. Non UK residents feel free to enter – you can either nominate a recipient or wait until you are next in the UK.
